2013 was a tough year, as my daughter suddenly lost her father, when she was only 9 years old. Her attitude and behavior started to slowly spiral out of control. She was a very angry child, but this anger was only directed at me. I came to a point where I didn’t know how to cope, we where arguing almost everyday, plus it would go on for hours and sometimes ruin the whole week or weekend. I remember once we were in the car and I just felt like putting my foot down and driving us into a brick wall, to kill us both. That’s how bad it was getting. How could I not manage my own child, why am I starting to be scared of her, she’s 10 ( at this point ) for crying out loud. But to everybody else she was an angel, so how could I get family support when no one believes what this child is mentally putting me through. I started to resort to hitting her, which only mad things worse, as I knew that in the near future she’s going to hit me back and then I will be fighting a child, a child that I shouldn’t even be hitting.

Anyway, at this point I contacted Victor Evelyn, I’m not sure he could even make sense of what I was saying, as I was crying uncontrollably down the phone. My daughter was in the car, cussing me about something or another, so I parked up, stood in the rain and called him. Victor arranged with me, to come to our home, once a week for a two hour chat with my daughter, which I would be also sitting in these conversations. I’m not going to divulge into these (lessons) I’m going to call them, but I can tell you, that I didn’t realise it at the time, but Victor was actually counseling us both. He helped my daughter know her worth and how to treat others, and I learnt that my reaction plays a big part of my daughters actions. You see, it was never just my daughter who had a problem, I did too, but I would have never seen it without Victors intervention. I think if I didn’t make that call that day in the rain, my daughter would be living a street life or been in the care of social services.

Change took time, and it took time for me to learn to be a mother who listened, observed and have understanding. As even when Victor no longer made those weekly visits, I would still call him if I felt an situation was arising that I couldn’t cope with.

Now my daughter is 16 years old and I couldn’t wish for a better relationship or a better child. She is kind, considerate, helpful and just a beautiful soul. During the lockdown period, we were at home together for 3 months, only going out for walks and food shopping. It was actually a wonderful time in our house, we laughed a lot, bonded and just enjoyed each other’s company. Not one disagreement or argument was had. Can you believe that! I dread to think what it would of been like if the pandemic would of been six years ago.

I can’t stress enough, that if your struggling as a parent, it’s ok to reach out for help. There’s no guidebook or manual. It sometimes takes outside help for you to see what you need. Victor Evelyn, saved mine and my daughters relationship. Let him help you save yours. It’s 100% worth it.
